The first weekend of October will be a wine celebration with many stops around Plovdiv. Encounters with wines from the local wineries will be colorful and diverse—in a festive urban setting, among vineyards bathed in autumn sun, and amid barrels in the cellars.
In the spirit of the celebration of local varieties, and as the birthplace of two icons of Bulgarian winemaking—Mavrud (Western Thrace) and Red Misket (Rose Valley)—the thirteen wineries in the “Plovdiv Wine Routes” association are joining the Urban Wine Fest Plovdiv. The dedicated regional stand featuring a selection of local varieties will reinforce the regional focus of the “International Mavrud Day” celebration.
On Sunday, the wineries open their doors and invite you to be just “A glass of wine away from Plovdiv.” You choose which ones to visit, and they will select 3 special wines for tasting, different from the festival lineup—some favorites, others surprising and unfamiliar.
Wine tours in the cellars filled with the fruity aromas of fermenting wines, walks through vineyards tinged with autumn and heavy with ripe fruit, meetings with the creators of the wines, and inspiring conversations about the challenges of winemaking and viticulture await you at the wineries.
You will experience the energy, aromas, and flavors of the wines during their creation—the harvest campaign.
What to expect “A glass of wine away from Plovdiv”
Admission: A bottle of wine of your choice in exchange for the tasting at each winery—the best way to thank them for their hospitality.
Urban Wine Fest: free entry; consumption is paid on site.
